Buenos Aires, January 7 (NA) – A man who helped firefighters during the fires in the Puerto Patriada area in Chubut died hours later in a brutal frontal crash on Route 40. The victim was identified as Adolfo Leónidas Mariscurrena. As a result of the accident, two other people were injured and had to be hospitalized. The accident occurred this Tuesday at kilometer 1910 of National Route 40, at the intersection with Los Cipreses street, in the Las Golondrinas area. For unknown reasons, the two vehicles collided head-on. As a result of the crash, Mariscurrena died, while two people were taken to health centers for medical attention, and it was confirmed that one of them suffered a serious injury. According to information released by the Provincial Public Prosecutor's Office, which was accessed by the Argentine News Agency, prosecutor Débora Barrionuevo and official Natanel Abad went to the scene of the incident and gave the investigation brigade staff the task of interviewing possible witnesses. At the same time, a review of security cameras in the area was being carried out with the aim of obtaining images that could provide information on the route taken by the vehicles. In another order of events, from the Prosecutor's Office, it was ordered that professionals from the Victim Assistance Service accompany the deceased's family group. In addition, the authorities reported that Mariscurrena worked at a camping site in Puerto Patriada and had helped the firefighters summoned to mitigate the flames affecting the area. Alongside the volunteers, using a shovel, he made his contribution to the fight against the fire. Afterwards, he decided to self-evacuate and return to his place of origin in the town of El Bolsón. For this reason, he loaded as many items as he could into his vehicle to prevent them from catching fire, got his dog on board, and set off on his journey along national route 40. However, for reasons under investigation, upon reaching kilometer 1,910, his vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle in which a couple was traveling from the Andean Comarca to the city of Trelew. According to witnesses, the pet survived the accident and remained by its owner's side throughout the entire operation.
